Locked Garden

"A locked garden. No path to it, no way.
A locked garden—man.
Shall I go away? Or shall I strike the rock
until blood flows?"
(Locked Garden, Rachel)

Man is the garden: good and beautiful, yet locked and blocked off from others. The painting draws its inspiration from the poet Rachel’s contemplation on the essence of a person and the ability to touch and be exposed to their soul, when the path there does not exist. Do we accept the blocked path, or do we break through against all odds, even at the cost of injury?
