David and Bathsheba (Acrylic print)
David and Bathsheba
"And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon." (2 Samuel 11:2)
When David saw Bathsheba and desired her, the role of Uriah the Hittite in the biblical story was done. His place would soon be taken by the son of the two, who would one day be called King Solomon. Becky's painting depicts that first fateful encounter between David, who secretly spies on Bathsheba through the lyre in his hand, while in the background Uriah the Hittite leaves with his provisions and his horses.
